The concert takes place in honor of the renowned Irish composer Seóirse Bodley on his 90th birthday. His connection to Stuttgart has always been a very strong and special one. He studied at the Musikhochschule in Stuttgart in the 60s and 70s. From 1984 he gave numerous concerts and workshops worldwide in collaboration with Aylish Kerrigan, mezzo-soprano. He received a commission from the German-American Center for a work in commemoration of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York. This resulted in the cycle “After Great Pain.” The concert is a retrospective of the longstanding collaboration between Aylish Kerrigan and Seóirse Bodley. Poems by the well-known Irish poets Brendan Kennelly and Micheal O’Siadhail, who provided texts for Bodley’s vocal works, will also be performed.
