New music from women in Ireland for Valentine's Day

The program presents new music by female composers from Ireland. Insight into a new composition from Ireland by Prof. Dr. Gráinne Mulvey for voice, cello, piano, flute and audio track with lyrics by famous Irish suffragettes and women’s rights campaigners. The composition was supported by the Irish Arts Council and was written specifically for Aylish Kerrigan. It uses secondary vocal techniques for the vocals, quarter tones and unusual techniques for flute, cello and piano. ‘Smilling like that…’ based on Molly Bloom’s monologue in James Joyce’s Ulysses for audio track and voice was by Dr. Rhona Clarke composed for Aylish Kerrigan. Both composers have received international awards and are performed worldwide. The program is complemented by poems by Hennessy Hall of Fame poet and activist Paula Meehan.
